418 SD. Center St. Arlington, TX Jan 11. 1936 Mr. George W. Shepard Comp of Public Accounts Confederate Pension Austin Texas Dear Sir: I had the sad misfortune to lose my wife by death on Tuesday, 24th Dec 1935. I had received my pension a few days before and had paid it out on our living expenses. I could not have any one write for me before this time and I am most blind. I can only discern daylight from darkness or large objects. I will be totally blind in a few or couple of months. As I am in helpless condition, I have to be waited on and need money for medicine, doctor bill and help. I have to have someone lead me. I am at my daughter's house, but she is a widow with a family dependent on (sic)he. I am ninety-one years old soon will be ninety-two. I would like to ask you if you can continue to send me the fifty dollars for now I am in such a critical need of money. In my recent bereavement I have had much expense to bear and need some help to meet it. Let me her from you at once. Thank you Very Truly yours W. W. Queen 418 S. You are futher advised that since your wife's death occurred on December 24, 1935 warrants, was $5.60 in excess of the amount due you, and before futher payments can issue to you, it is required that you either return the warrant for cancelation as the law directs, or if the warrant has been cashed, that you remit to this office the $5.60 by cashier's check or postoffice money order. If such remittance is received your January, 1938 will be issured to you promptly. Yours very Truly Unsigned Comptroller of Public Accounts |
