I have really enjoyed searching your Mills County site. You have lots of wonderful information. I hope I can help you add to it. My sources of information are listed, and my husband's lineage will be given in the query I am also sending.

My husband, Weldon E. Pittman Sr. is the Great-grandson of William Hastings CARLISLE Jr. and Lucinda ABSHER CARLISLE.

{Information taken from death certificate filed in Mills County except nickname and exact birth place taken from Soldier's Application for Confederate Pension number 43388} William "Billie" Hastings CARLISLE Jr., born August 2, 1847, near Three Creeks, Union County Arkansas, died March 4, 1935 Mullin, Mills County Texas, buried Duren Cemetery, Mills County Texas.

{Information taken from death certificate filed in Mills County} Lucinda ABSHER CARLISLE, born August 1862 Texas, died February 8, 1939, Mullin, Mills County Texas, buried Duren Cemetery, Mills County Texas.

{information taken from Soldier's Application for Confederate Pension number 43388} Billie CARLISLE enlisted in the military service of the Confederate States about February 1, 1864 in Texas and served in Captain Keys Co., Angelina County Home Guards, Cavalry. He served one year and three months and was discharged about May 20, 1865 at Waverly, now called New Waverly, Walker County, Texas

In the Mills County Memories, compiled and copyrighted by the Mills County Historical Commission, 1994 on page 191 Article titled "The Carlisle Family", submitted by Bonita House, there is mention of William "Billie" Hastings CARLISLE Jr in the first Paragraph,

"On December 9, 1896, William Melton Carlisle married Sarah Elizabeth Smith in Lufkin, Texas. Both were born and raised in Angelina Counmty. In May 1901, William Melton's parents, W. H. and Lucinda Carlisle moved to Mills County and bought land north of Mullin in the Pompey Community."

In the Second Paragraph, there is this mention as the son, William Melton Carlisle and family and an Uncle, John Carlisle moved to Mills county,. " .....They moved west until reached Mills County. They moved into a small log cabin on a place north of W.H. Carlisle. Later they bought the W.H. Carlisle place where they lived until the 1960's .........."The rest of the article names descendants .
