IN THE SPIRIT OF LOVE AND INCLUSION OF ALL I WISH EVERYONE THEIR HAPPIEST HOLIDAY!

We spent all last week at PetSmart in Waco working a Santa photo Op event and what a blast! One hundred and five pet parents brought their four pawed "kids" by for a photo with Santa. Someone brought a beautiful(!) parrot who talked throughout the photo shoot urging Santa to, "come closer, fella." I love the PetSmart experience, all those folks obviously are nuts about their animals.

A couple of weeks ago I urged everyone to check out Hamilton's Animal Control Shelter in the hope we would empty it out for Christmas! One lovely sweetheart was adopted; I just knew she would be the first to go...but another small dog still remains. A terrier mix with a very loving disposition. So perfect for a senior! She has a bit of swelling but nothing serious and Huts for Mutts will pay for her immediate medical needs so you can be assured of adopting a healthy animal. Please, please...even if you cannot take her in permanently would you consider fostering her so we can get her out of the shelter? Call us and we will take her to the vet and have her health needs taken care of before you foster her.

We also have another small dog at the sanctuary that desperately needs inside accommodations. She is a beagle/terrier mix...terrier size, fine boned, with beagle coloring...beautiful and so sweet! We really want her in an inside foster home until we can get her adopted...and that should be soon! When the holidays are behind us we will once again be gang-busters on our adoption events at PetSmart and these small dogs usually go quick. Contact us if you can foster either of these little angels...we know the beagle mix is housebroke and cat friendly and believe the pound dog is too. Had a collar on and very sweet...how could anyone abandon such a small animal to fend for itself.

Huts for Mutts representatives have attended several clinics and seminars in the past couple of months and have learned volumes not only about different avenues of finding dogs homes, but various placement possibilities for dogs displaying special talents. We are now AP certified (Gifted Animal Placement)! Gap places trained dogs with law enforcement agencies both local and federal, in fact international(!), as one of their dogs went to Afghanistan. During a recent overnight in Savannah, Georgia I asked K-9 security at the airport where they got their dog from. Oh this fellow was so proud! "We imported the dog from Holland. Cost us $10,000." Whoa! He went on to inform me all the German Shepherds in the United States had back problems so they decided to import their dog.

Well, glad the folks in Savannah have money to burn...we can get Hamilton a drug dog for a fraction of that cost. I am talking REASONABLE! I also understand we have a need for such a dog. While attending the GAP training classes I mentioned I was from Hamilton and DPS recognized my community as having a terrible infestation of drugs! Egad! Hamilton citizens are forced to deal with all the problems these poor souls bring to our community. Poor souls? Yes, you have to feel a bit sorry for people whose lives are so meaningless (even to themselves) they use drugs to "feel" something, to be happy, to function in general--to be someone. That is truly a poor soul. Their problems have become ours. Do you want this influence on your children? We must eradicate this "sickness" from our community and if procuring a drug dog will be of service then Huts for Mutts is here to help.
