"Dogs From Deep In The Heart Of Texas"

JAMIE JONES AND JULIE OGLESBY were seniors at Hamilton (Texas) High School, in 2003, when they set out on a personal mission to end the 99% euthanasia rate at the city pound. Huts For Mutts grew out of their determination. Others joined and today our small but faithful group continues taking dogs out of the city pound, off the dirt roads and local highways.

SPACIOUS, GRASSY, TREE SHADED LOTS are home to our residents. All come complete with shelters and wading pools. The dogs run, play, and snooze at will while waiting for that special someone to choose them--and take them to their "forever" home.
PETSMART ADOPTION EVENTS As part of the PetSmart family Huts for Mutts regularly conducts adoption events at the Franklin Avenue (Waco, Texas) PetSmart. Our valued association with PetSmart has helped increase adoptions and put our name out into the community of Waco.
LOW COST SPAY/NEUTER HUTS FOR MUTTS IN ASSOCIATION WITH TEXAS COALITION FOR ANIMAL PROTECTION (TCAP) has hosted low-cost spay/neuter events for the Hamilton community with great success. The nearest low-cost clinic is 80 miles and many of Hamilton's elderly and low/fixed-income residents are not able to travel that distance to "fix" their pets. HFM brings low cost and convenience to them.

FOUND

This dog was found the weekend of December 15-16 near Deer Trail Run and Hi-Way 281 (about ten miles south of Hamilton). He has no collar and hasn't been neutered but he is very healthy. He is a little shy with people but loves to run and play with other dogs. If you recognize this poor guy, please contact Huts For Mutts at hutsformutts@yahoo.com or call us at 254-386-5272.

.

  • Mama Dog ~ Mama came to us with 6 lab mix pups! Two remain to be adopted, a black male and a chocolate female. Mama will have to either be adopted by a family deep in the country or with a sturdy, high, privacy fence as she is a jumper! Athletic as all get out and very loving. Mama is an adult about 4 years old.
  • Rotty ~ This dog came from a cousin of Marion's up in Arlington...nice dog but needs some handling (like all of them) is maybe a rotty mix
  • Spot ~ Remember Dick, Jane, Sally, Puff--and Spot! Ol' Spotty was the name of my very first dog and this guy reminds me so much of him! Sweet natured but protective at the same time. Spot is a dalmation, we believe full blood. Guessing about 2-3 years old, neutered and up to date on all his shots (of course!). See Spot Run!
  • Petunia, Jethraene and Snickers ~ What a great photo of our trio! PETUNIA (we have a threesome of flowers here, all grown labs) is a young, high energy lab so intent on showing affection she'll bowl you over! (MARIGOLD AND DAISY are not pictured, but you know Labs are much like snowflakes, they make look alike but each in its own way is very special!) Our Labs are spayed and ready to make your home theirs! JETHRAENE is a purebred German Sheperd, and while perhaps not the best example of a Shepherd you'll ever see, she is the biggest-hearted, most devoted dog you'll ever call your own. SNICKERS is the last of his litter, the product of a full blood GERMAN SHORTHAIR POINTER and maybe Lab. Snickers would be a great kids dog, he has a playful attitude but not a mean bone in his body.
  • Brindle ~ This guy is a bit older than most of our residents. Who knows how he ended up with us; we took him out of the pound when no one claimed him. He mixes great with people and other dogs but I have a feeling he'd make some quiet individual who doesn't want a "needy" friend but rather a great companion...not too demanding but there to give you all the love you'd ever need!
  • Domino, Terrence, Tahlula and Trooper ~ TROOPER (the brown dog) and Tahula are already adopted! DOMINO (black/white) a young active sporting dog, neutered and ready to run to the creek with your boys or play fetch with dad! TERRENCE is a black (a tiny bit of white) whippet mix, neutered male with a naturally docked tail waiting for you to come claim him! He is the last of his litter--for no good reason(!) as this medium size sweetie pie is more quiet and reserved than any other dog we have...plays very gentle! Dare I even suggest he'd make a great little girl's dog! TAHLULA is another last of the litter, colorful and a delight to call your own! She's ready to get in the middle of whatever is going on, a rambuctious toot and great addition to any family. All these guys/gals are spayed/neutered.
  • JoJo ~ Most people figure him as a sheltie mix. Coloring is a bit blue heeler, which makes him a very unique--and show stopping dog. Young adult, he gets along with most everyone at the sanctuary--how about giving him a try at your house?

~ Snickers is a little toot! A German Short Hair mix he is less than a year old, neutered and full of himself! This fellow likes to play but definitely needs to attend obedience classes!

~ This is Bubbles - a beagle mix, 1-2 years old. Another really sweet young dog.

~ Magellan. Body build reminds me of pyrannes...is a bit shy but will fall over for tummy rubs.

We will periodically be posting pictures and information about more of these special pets.
Please help them if you can.

    FOSTER PARENT PROGRAM

The primary focus of our Foster Parent Program is to provide care for dogs or cats that are too young, ill or just need to be around people to become more social. Since we cannot provide specialized care for animals at our facility in Hamilton, we must rely on foster "parent" volunteers. These volunteers take animals into their homes, providing them with much needed social and medical attention for several days to several weeks depending on the animal's specific need. The goal of the Foster Program is to provide an animal with the care it needs to be adopted into a permanent family.

Please contact us if you would like to help by becoming a Foster Parent.

    HUTS FOR MUTTS
    NO COST SPAY/NEUTER CLINIC
    THANKS TO PARTICIPATING HAMILTON BUSINESSES!

Our third annual Spay Day (in conjunction with the Nationwide Doris Day Animal League project) is just around the corner. In the past we have offered a low-cost spay/neuter clinic. This year, thanks to participating businesses we are offering a NO COST SPAY/NEUTER CLINIC!
HUTS FOR MUTTS would like you to consider shopping our sponsors first as a way of saying thanks for getting involved and making this public service possible.
Again, your free spay/neuter is funded 100% by our participating sponsors! The demand is no doubt going to outnumber the funds available so we are running a lottery to determine whose pets will be "fixed" for free--this time. If you make this campaign a success we can organize another.
The lottery is open to everyone who makes a purchase from one of our sponsors and enters the drawing (held weekly on fridays at 10:50am on KCLW) Enter as many times as you frequent the stores! Three winners a week will receive a voucher to bring their pet to our next clinic free of charge (spay/neuter only) tentatively scheduled January/early February.
BLESS YOU IF YOUR PETS ARE ALREADY SPAY/NEUTERED...BUT ENTER ANYWAY AND GIVE YOUR WINNING VOUCHER TO A NEIGHBOR IN NEED! And please, PLEASE! pass the word along to others. Encourage responsible pet ownership because EVERY LITTER HURTS HAMILTON.
A listing of the participating businesses is running weekly in The Hamilton Herald News or you can look for the placard designating the business a lottery participant. We suggest you use the back of your receipt to write your name/address/phone number as an entry. If you want to keep your receipt, a piece of paper will do. This lottery will run November through December (8 weeks) so enter every time you go to a participating business and increase your chance of winning!
If you have address labels keep them in your purse and use them to stick on your entry form--eliminate the writing!
we are asking you to forward this e-mail to all the Hamilton residents in your e-mail address book and to keep this notice circulating throughout November and December (the time period of our lottery).
AND REMEMBER--OUR SPONSORS MADE THIS EVENT POSSIBLE--SAY THANKS!

    WE HAVE THE MANPOWER,
THE DETERMINATION, THE MOTIVATION, AND THE EXPERIENCE
WE NEED YOUR SUPPORT TO CONTINUE!

Our costs are much higher now than when we began. "One dog at a time has grown to 20 on site and 3 foster dogs. Every animal is spayed/neutered, vaccinated, heartworm tested and treated monthly. Your donations keep our routine in tact.
We organize low cost spay/neuter events as well as suppliment the cost many of the operations ourselves and while our focus is primarily dogs--we include cats in all our spay/neuter programs. Your donation helps us end "littering" in Hamilton.
Presently we are engaged in a huge trap/spay-neuter/return event in response to several inquires from caretakers regarding feral cat communities they are watching over. Also, Huts for Mutts is proud to be participating in Doris Day's Animal League Spay Day 2006.
