Astronauts Neil Armstrong and Edwin Aldrin become the first men
to walk on the moon.  The astronaut´s Apollo lunar module named Eagle lands
safely on the Sea of Tranquility. The U.S. Department of Agriculture suspends the
use of DDT until more research is completed on the chemical. U.S. President
Richard Nixon becomes the first President to visit Indonesia. President Nixon
travels to the Philippines to met with President Ferdinand Marcos. In other news,
Stokely Carmichael announces that he is leaving the Black Panthers.

Sports
The New York Mets sweep Baltimore Orioles to win their first World Series.
 The Jets defeat the Colts to win Super bowl III. Rod Laver becomes the first man to win
the Grand Slam of tennis twice. The U.S. team retains the Davis Cup. Belgian racer Eddy
Merckx wins the Tour de France. The Boston Celtics beat the Los Angeles Lakers to capture
the National Basketball Association Championship. A horse named Majestic Prince, ridden by
jockey W. Hartack, wins the Kentucky Derby. This is the fifth time jockey Hartack rides the
winning horse.
