conviction for draft evasion.  In Memphis, James Earl Ray pleads not guilty to killing
Dr. Martin Luther King. Dr. Benjamin Spock receives two years of counseling for draft
evasion. In New York, the Communist Party appoints Charlene Mitchell as president. In
other news, commercial flights from Moscow to the United States were established. In
Paris, armed police remove several protesters from the University of Paris Medical School.
In Moscow, 36 nations sign a nuclear nonproliferation treaty.

Unser wins Indy 500, averaging 152.9 mph. The Boston Celtics continue their
winning streak by capturing the National Basketball Association title, defeating
the Los Angeles Lakers. Lee Trevino wins the U.S. Open Golf Championship. A
horse named Dancer´s Image, ridden by jockey R. Ussery, wins the Kentucky Derby.
