Once again, Peggy Fleming successfully defends her World Figure Skating title. Detroit defeats St Louis in the seventh game of the World Series. The Green Bay Packers defeat the Oakland Raiders 33-14 in Super Bowl II. Bobby Unser wins Indy 500, averaging 152.9 mph. The Boston Celtics continue their winning streak by capturing the National Basketball Association title, defeating the Los Angeles Lakers. Lee Trevino wins the U.S. Open Golf Championship. A horse named Dancer´s Image, ridden by jockey R. Ussery, wins the Kentucky Derby.
