In Korea, United Nation delegates convene with communists to discuss the possibility of a cease
fire. In the United States, J.D. Salinger´s "Catcher in the Rye" is published.
U. S. President Harry Truman warns auto workers in Detroit that the Soviet Union is expanding to start new
aggression "at any time." In Washington D.C., President Truman´s top aide Averell Harriman
travels to Tehran to ease the oil crisis. Jordan´s King Abdullah is assassinated in Jerusalem.

Sports
Baseball bids farewell to retiring Joe DiMaggio, and says
hello to 20-year-old Willie Mays, as he joins the Giants. The Yankees win
the Series over the Giants. The L. A. Rams defeat the Cleveland Browns for
the NFL title. Emmanuel MacDonald sets a new record for the 100-meter dash.
Swiss cyclist Hugo Koblet wins Tour de France. Rochester wins over New York
for the NBA title. In Boxing, Ezzard Charles defeats Joe Walcott in 15 rounds,
and later this year, is KO´d by Walcott in 7 rounds. In thoroughbred
racing, "Count Turf", ridden by C. McCreary, wins the Kentucky Derby.
