The Goldthwaite City Park is located at the intersection of US Hwy 183 and St Hwy 16. The GC&SFe Railroad plotted lots in the town of Goldthwaite in 1885 at which time a lake was built and a 50' deep, 32' diameter well was hand dug to help provide water for the railroad. In 1915, the dam for the lake was broken, and the city was given the well and the land. The original lake is now where the present city park is located. A historical marker is at the northeast entrance of the Goldthwaite City Park west of the original well where the well is still in existence.
Today, the city park contains a lighted sand volleyball court, a lighted basketball/volleyball combination concrete court, a washer pitching court, and playground equipment including a wheel-chair swing. It also contains restroom facilities, two large covered pavilions, tables, and benches located under our large shade trees. The park also includes a city-operated swimming pool. The City of Goldthwaite municipal golf course is located 3 miles south of Goldthwaite on State Hwy 16. It is operated by a 7-member non-profit golf board. The golf course offers 9-holes of golfing pleasure. The golf course facilities also include a pro shop, cart sheds, paved cart paths, a putting green, and a driving range. There are sand traps and water hazards to challenge even the most experienced golfer!
